Charles J. Rossey of Meadville (Hayfield Township), passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 76.
He was born in Venango County on March 28, 1939, a son of the late Earl Edward and Bessie Rebekah (Walls) Rossey on April 29, 1961. He married the former Joyce L. Rudy who preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2016. He had been employed by Morgan Drive A Way in Plant City, Fla., and had locally owned and operated a small engine repair shop in Meadville for many years.
He is survived by his children — three sons, Charles E. Rossey and his wife, Shamrock, of Meadville, Norman E. Rossey and his wife, Brenda, of Meadville, Brad R. Rossey and his wife, Virginia, of Meadville, and one daughter, Janet M. Alexander and her husband, Thomas, of Conneaut Lake; six sisters, Elsie Culp of Venus, Mary Rossey of Meadville, Wanita Berlin of Oil City, Barbara Ketcham of Meadville, Dorothy Crawford of Corry and Shirley Hamilton of Venus; three brothers, Clarence Rossey of Florida, Jack Rossey and Earl Edward Rossey Jr., both of Meadville; 14 grandchildren, Jesse Rossey and his wife, Sonja, of Meadville, Steven Howell and his fiancée, Desiree Cascio, of Saegertown, Thomas and Danielle Alexander of Guys Mills, Andrew Alexander of Conneaut Lake, Shelly and Ryan Trypus of Meadville, Norman Rossey of Meadville, Devin Rossey of Meadville, Alex Rossey of Meadville, Amanda Rossey of Meadville, Stephanie and her husband, Joseph McKinney, of Meadville, Kayla Rossey and fiancé, Thomas McGrath, of Meadville, and Jayden Rossey of Meadville; 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, four brothers, Ralph LeRoy Rossey, William Rossey, James LeRoy Rossey and Alonzo Rossey; a sister, Matilda Rossey; and two granddaughters, Kelly Rossey and Joanna Rossey.
A Celebration of the Life of Charles J. Rossey will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Meadville Alliance Church, 660 N. Main St., Meadville, with Pastor Jeff Conley officiating. Charles will be laid to rest next to his wife at Denny Cemetery.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at snyderfh.com.
