Barry Lynn Henderson, 63, of Bolivar, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, in Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
He was born Oct. 11, 1952, in Johnstown, a son of the late Roy Edgar and Marie Flickinger Henderson.
Barry graduated from Laurel Valley High School, class of 1970. He had been employed for 18 years by the Florence Mining Co., where he was trained for the mine rescue team. Later he was employed as an electrician by NRG and was trained as a first responder.
He was a devoted member of the Bolivar First Church of Christ, where he had been in the choir, served as deacon and was a youth leader. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Squirrel Hill Hunting Club and Tubmill Trout Club. Barry was a loving father and family man, and one of the nicest men you could ever meet.
Barry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Linda Tunstall Henderson; two sons, Barry R. Henderson, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Jeremy L. Henderson, of Westminster, Md.; four sisters: Fay A. Henderson, of Westminster, Md.; Karen S. Foster, of Lithia, Fla.; Gay Lou Knupp, of New Florence; and Tracy (Jeff) Bealonis, of Seward; a brother, H. Fritz (Kathryn) Henderson, of Burke, Va.; an aunt, Florence Decker, of New Florence; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Judith Hall, and a brother, Jay Arthur Henderson.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel Inc., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. A service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bolivar First Church of Christ with evangelist Chris H. Hopper and Dale Dudgeon co-officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bolivar Westview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Barry’s name be made to the Bolivar First Church of Christ.
