Allen Dwight ‘Hap’ Hoagland

Allen Dwight “Hap” Hoagland, 99, of Shenango on the Green, New Wilmington, formerly of Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, and Muncie, Ind., died the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Shenango SeniorCare, New Wilmington.

Born in Sharon on Aug. 13, 1916, to the late Clarence and Ruby Goodall Hoagland, he married the former Temple Bartholomew on Sept. 14, 1935, and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Hoagland retired from Westinghouse in 1981 after 46 years of service. 

He was a former member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Lackawannock Township and First Presbyterian Church in Muncie, Ind. He then joined the Corinth United Methodist Church in Muncie, Ind. 

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, having received the Silver Beaver Award.

Survivors include three daughters, Lixlee Jean (Franklin “Buck”) Schroyer of Lackawannock Township, Donna Rae (James) Leas of Shenango Township and Margie Allyn (Steven) Tucker of Milton, Del.; two sons, Dwight David (Alice) Hoagland of Lackawannock Township and Gary Van (Janelle) Hoagland of Fort Wayne, Ind.; his loving friend, Maxine Kalcevic of Shenango on the Green, New Wilmington; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Alan Garth Schroyer; grandson-in-law, Gerald T. Haun; three brothers, Robert, David and Van Hoagland; and a sister, Eleanor Sentman.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

Friends may also call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Unity Presbyterian Church, 1857 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, Mercer, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Moose officiating both services.

Interment will follow at Unity Cemetery, Lackawannock Township.
