ATHENS — Gary E. Cordray, age 63, of the Athens area, died Sept. 17, 2017 at his home. Born April 29, 1954 in Springfield, he was the son of the late William and Janice Lee Swallow Cordray.
A graduate of Greenon High School in Springfield, he attended Ohio University. He owned and operated Cordray Pest Control for over 40 years in Athens. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and competitive fishing. He was a member of the Athens Fish and Game Club and the Athens Bassmaster’s Club. He was a volunteer in many community and youth activities including the Athens, Hocking, and Vinton 317 Board. He considered his volunteer work at the John W. Clem House an honor.
Gary is survived by two sons, Gary Lee (Jodi) Cordray of Kingston, New York and Pearce C. Cordray of San Diego, California; a grandson, Myles Lee Cordray of Nelsonville; and a brother, William Cordray of Defiance.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor Denver Dodrill officiating. Cremation has taken place.
