Davey Reiter

Davey L. Reiter passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018, in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital at the age of 87.

He was born January 8, 1931, in Mansfield to parents Philip & Katherine (Stoll) Reiter. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High with the class of 1950, and proudly served his country as a member of the US Army when he was drafted during the Korean Conflict in 1951. He worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC.

Following his honorable discharge, Davey took a job as an orderly for the hospital in Mansfield where he met a beautiful young nurse named Mary Ellen Eyerly. The pair married on May 1, 1955, and together raised three children: a daughter Karen and sons Phillip and Sam.

Davey was a steelworker with AK Steel in Mansfield for over 28 years and—as luck would have it— before retiring he even worked several years with his future son-in-law, Lance.

In spare time, he took pleasure in putting together jigsaw puzzles. Davey was a big fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Cleveland Cavaliers and anyone who knew him enjoyed his dry sense of humor. But above all, Davey cherished spending time with his grandchildren and family.

He was a member of American Legion Earl McVey Post #16 of Mansfield and the 40et8.

Davey is survived by his children: Karen (Lance) Hoffman of Lucas, Ohio, Phillip (Loriann) Reiter of Dacula, Georgia, and Sam Reiter of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren Dava Lynn (Zach) Saterfield, Maryellen Hoffman, Phillip Reiter II, Xzavier Reiter, and Trystin Reiter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ellen Reiter and his best friend Howie.

Although no public service will be held in Davey’s memory, his family hopes that you will hold him in your heart as you remember him in your own special way. Interment will occur at a later date beside his dear wife Mary Ellen in Mansfield Cemetery.
