As a result of her exceptional secretarial skills she eventually became a secretary for the Howard Hughes Corp. She moved back to Illinois to be nearer to her family and worked two years for the Whirlpool Corp., in Chicago as an executive secretary. Ruth then put her professional career path on hold to care for her parents at the family estate in Sawyer, Michigan.
After the death of her parents, Ruth took some time for herself touring the United States and the South Pacific Islands. When she returned to the States and resided in Cleveland, Ohio for approximately thirty years. Due to her increasing age and distance from family members, Ruth came to New York in 2005. She resided at the Holden Home and the John’s Home in Newburgh. She became a resident at Wingate at Ulster, May 5, 2010.
Ruth’s life was very family centered, always attending picnics, sports events and musical concerts featuring her two beloved nephews: Thomas and his wife, Marilyn of Newburgh, NY and Philip and his wife, Margaret of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her grand-nephew, Todd, and grand-nieces, Lindsay and Diana. Aunt Ruth, affectionately known as “Auie”, especially enjoyed family visits and listening to her great-grand-niece, Melena, singing musical selections for her and the residents of Wingate. Ruth’s sense of humor, storytelling and winning smile will be missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Harvey and Elsie, Ruth was predeceased by her sister, Jane and her brother, Ralph.
