Lucy Fontane, a longtime area resident, died peacefully following illness at the Carlucci Home in Greenville, NY. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Maria Bolgosano Failla and Vincenzo Failla, she was born on December 15, 1926 in the Bronx. She worked as a microfilm technician at Orange and Rockland in Spring Valley until her retirement. She was an excellent seamstress, and sewed clothes for herself, her daughter and made doll clothes as well.
A Rockland County resident for over 40 years, Lucy was a member of the Montebello Seniors. After moving to the Middletown area 10 years ago, she became a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Linda Schupner and her husband, Kenneth of Westtown and sons, Peter Fontane and his wife, Christine of Kennesaw, GA and Richard Fontane of Cornwall. She is also survived by her brother, Sebastian Failla of New Jersey and Joseph Failla of Rockland; sister, Tina Polizzi and her husband, Sam of Toms River; and six grandchildren, Ken, Jr, Douglas, Matthew, Joseph, Devin and Travis and four great-grandchildren, David, Kristin, Logan and Alyssa.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Salvatore and Frank and sister, Eleanor Cipallaro.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, Fr. Michael Palazzo will officiate. Cremation will be private.
Memorial contributions in Lucy’s name may be made to the American Red Cross.
