Maria Kohut, 91, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Friday January 15, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Kropylnyk, Ukraine and emigrated to Syracuse in 1955. She retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1987 where she worked for 30 years. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian
Catholic Church and the Women’s Organization for the Defense of the Four Freedoms of Ukraine and the Ukrainian National Home. She was very active in the Ukrainian community She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her Husband Michael who died in 2000 and her Son Marian who died in 2012.
Survivors; Her Daughter and Son in Law Anna and Bob Meeks of Jordan, NY and her Son Steven Kohut of Syracuse. Two Sisters Rose and Olena of Ukraine and several Nieces and Nephews
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 9:30 a.m. from the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mrs. Kohut will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home 1609 W. Genesee St.. The Panakhyda Services will be held at 6 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church Roof Fund and Hospice of CNY.
