Kenneth R. MacLeod, 87, of Fort Montgomery passed away at his home on Sunday, December 21, 2015. He was born May 9, 1928 in New York City, son of the late George and Frieda MacLeod.

He lived in Beacon until 1946 when he joined the Army and was stationed at Camp Smith. In 1947 he was accepted into the United States Military Academy Band at West Point and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974. Ken was a drummer and Drum Major with the USMA Hellcats. He assisted in the formation of the Pipes and Drums of the United States Corps of Cadets. He loved West Point and his career in the USMA Band. His military awards include World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Medal with oak leaf cluster, and Good Conduct Medal (Eighth Award).

He was a member of the West Point Masonic Lodge #877 in Highland Falls, Regiment of Old Campaigners (ROOC), and volunteered his time for annual USMA Band Reunions. His interests included playing golf, especially with his brother and sons, and weekly pinochle games with his friends.

Ken is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary “Molly”; daughters: Carol (Barney) Quinn of Redwood NY, Susan (Joe Knox) DeBari, Linda (Mot) Giacoio and Jane Capizzano of Highland Falls, NY; sons: Roddy (Deb) MacLeod of Constitution Island, Donald MacLeod of Fort Montgomery, NY, Todd (Mary) MacLeod of Cornwall, NY; daughter-in-law, Debbie MacLeod of Fort Montgomery, and brother, Norman MacLeod of Beacon, NY. He was a proud Papa to seventeen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Glen MacLeod; his brother, Duncan and wife, Marcie MacLeod; sister, Rona and Bill Throckmorton; and sister-in-law, Ann MacLeod.

There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 8 at Old Cadet Chapel, West Point, NY. Entombment will immediately follow in West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY.
