Rosemary S. Johnson, age 91, resident of Altmar since 1944, passed away after a long illness Thursday in Liverpool at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family. Rosemary was born September 15, 1924 in Florence, NY, the daughter of William and Rose Kiddney Wheeler. She graduated Valedictorian from Altmar High School in 1942. Rosemary married Arnold E. Johnson on September 19, 1942, who predeceased her January 24, 1995. She was employed by Key Bank in Parish for 22 years, retiring in 1982. She will always be remembered for her compassion, joyful smile and stubborn wit. Qualities that would lift spirits, dry tears and give hope to everyone around her. We will always cherish memories of her love of dancing, her love of life and her love of family.
Surviving are one son, John (Lynne) Johnson of Orwell; two daughters, Suzanne (George) Duckwall of Lynchburg, VA and Kathy (Jim) Chlebus of Liverpool; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Rosemary was predeceased by one son, Gene Johnson who passed away November 1, 1994 and one step-grandson, Justin Chlebus who passed away September 2, 2007.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 18, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with a spring burial in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 17, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North Street, Liverpool, NY 13088.
