John P. Hayes of Middletown, NY passed away Wednesday, January 13th at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 84

John was born in Troy, NY on January 15, 1931, a son of the late John J. and Mary Flannery Hayes.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a 2nd Class Aviation Boatswain Mate during the Korean War serving on the USS Midway and USS Lake Champlain.

He retired as a switchman at Verizon Telephone, Middletown, NY; a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bloomingburg, NY.

He loved building birdhouses, fishing and gardening. His greatest love was his family, especially the grandchildren

He is survived by his wife, Margaret J. Dempsey Hayes at home; his five children: Michael Hayes and his wife, Nancy of Clarksville, OH; Patrick Hayes and his wife, Karen of Malden, MA; Daniel Hayes of Bohemia, NY; Susan Hayes of Lancaster, PA; and Joseph Hayes and his wife, Jessica of North Port, NY; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Maya, Sara, Noelle, Keara, and Kayla; two sisters: Ann Hayes of Troy; and Kathleen Lambie of Lowville, NY and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph and sisters: Caroline and Marie.

Friends are invited to call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 15 at Morse Funeral Home Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 16th with Father Stephan Tran officiating at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bloomingburg, NY.

Internment will follow in Orange County Veteran Cemetery Goshen, NY with military honors.
