Hatch, Joan (Lacey)

Joan Lacey Hatch, 84, of Chittenango, died peacefully on January 7, 2016.
Joan was born on August 31, 1931 in Elmira, NY to Henry Glenn Lacey and Marie Jenkins Lacey. She graduated from Southside High School in 1949 and received her R.N. degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing of Elmira in 1952. She married the love of her life, Sanford Bayliss Hatch, on June 26, 1954. In 1958, Joan and Sandy moved from Ithaca to Chittenango, where they raised four children. They purchased the local Agway Feeds and Lawn & Garden store in 1960. Joan worked with Sandy “at the mill” for many years. Following Sandy’s death, Joan returned to the nursing profession, working for Dr. Cedric Francis. She retired at age 60 to enjoy more time with her family and grandchildren, all of whom have fond and wonderful memories – especially the many gatherings at Tuscarora Lake.
Joan was very active in the St. Patrick’s Church community, the Chittenango Garden Club, the Chittenango Canal Boat Landing Museum, and the Sullivan Food Cupboard. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a lifelong bird watcher and an avid reader. She enjoyed life in her beloved Chittenango and the camaraderie of the many friends that she leaves to cherish her memory. Joan was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of 30 years, and her brother, John Edward Lacey.
She is survived by her children, David (Elaine) Hatch, Katie (Brent) Bombard, Karen Runyon and companion, Raymond Rogers, and Patty (Art) Porzio, her sisters-in-law, Sandy Lacey of Arizona and Elizabeth Hatch Hemkes of Ohio, her grandchildren, Joshua (Brigit) Hatch, Tracie and Steven Hatch, Kate (Mac) Duffy and Lisa Bombard, Jonathan, Craig, and Rebekah Runyon, and Douglas Porzio, her great-grandson, Miles Hatch, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Chittenango, at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango.
