Brooklyn, regrets to inform you of the death of Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. Bynon, retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Monsignor Bynon was born on

November 17, 1930 in

Brooklyn, New York, was

ordained to the Priesthood

on June 2, 1956, and

died Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at the Bishop Mugavero

Residence. Monsignor Bynon served the Diocese of

Brooklyn as Pastor

of Resurrection-Ascension (Rego Park) and Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Victory (Brooklyn), Sacred Hearts

of Jesus and Mary &

St. Stephen (Brooklyn) Blessed Sacrament (Jackson Heights) and St. Dominic (Oyster Bay). He was

appointed Superintendent of Schools, Episcopal Vicar

Vicariate A and Assistant Superintendent of Schools. He served on the Priests’ Personnel Board, the

Diocesan Board of

Consultors, the Priests’

Spirituality Advisory Board, the Diocesan Budget

Committee and the Pastoral Institute Board. On August 21, 1981, he was named

Prelate of Honor to His

Holiness. On February 23, 1997 he was named

Protonotary Apostolic

Supernumerary.
