Joanne K. (Deming) Brinkman, 68, of Cocoa, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017. Born in Rochester, Joanne moved to Florida with her husband in July 2016 to enjoy retirement and warmer weather.
Joanne served honorably in the Navy from April 1972 to November 1973, stationed in San Diego. She obtained her registered nursing degree from Saint Marys College of Nursing in Rochester, before pursuing her BSN at University of Minnesota and eventually her MBA at St. Thomas in St. Paul. She worked in the nursing field all her life before retiring from Woodstock Hospital in 2016. Joanne enjoyed cooking, playing cribbage, and traveling. She most enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico. She was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mildred Deming, as well as her brother, Robert Deming. She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Larry Brinkman; children, William and Millie Brinkman; siblings, Barbara Getz, of Oronoco, Patricia Clementson, of Ocala, Fla., Dorothy Sutter (Steve), of Auburn, Calif., William Deming (Barbara), of Wabasha, and Michael Deming (Dorothy), of Kasson; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanne’s name to St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg.
Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Abbott Funeral Home, 236 Second St. W., Wabasha, MN 55981. A visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, followed by Memorial Mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Kellogg American Legion Post No. 546, Wabasha American Legion Post No. 50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post No. 4086 and the MNARNG Honor Guard.
