George S. Young — Rochester

The funeral service for George S. Young Jr. will be at noon Thursday, Sept. 21, in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating. His body will be interred in the Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Young, 90, of Rochester, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Samaritan Bethany. His wife, Malinda, preceded him in death on March 22, 2015.

George was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Asheville, N.C., to George and Lois Young. He and Malinda Sigmon were married on Dec. 28, 1947, at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church in Asheville. He graduated from N.C. State in 1950 and was hired directly by IBM. George worked for IBM for more than 30 years and was transferred to Rochester in 1967.

Survivors include his daughter, Georgia (Daryl) Young Jensen of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Denise “Blaze” Young, widow of his son, Dan “Chop” Young of Chester; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter;

George was a WWII veteran of the Navy. He and Malinda were both avid golfers, and he loved woodworking. His favorite creations were post office door banks (Young Things) which he and Malinda sold at craft shows after his retirement.
