Our beloved mom and grandma, Betty Jean Olson, age 90, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Betty was born on April 10, 1927, in rural Stearns County, Minnesota to Roy and Lavina (Gildemeister) Fauskee. She grew up in Brooten, graduating from Brooten High School. On September 14, 1944, Betty was united in marriage to Loren H. Olson in Belgrade, MN. This union was blessed with four daughters and three sons. The family made their home in rural Brooten until 1948, when they moved to the Northfork Township in Stearns County. They lived there until 1956, when they moved to Columbia Heights. In 1979, Betty and Loren moved back to the farm in rural Brooten where they continued farming. Betty was a member of Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Brooten, active in the WELCA and quilting circle. Betty enjoyed collecting rocks and fossils, listening to music and quilting. She was a wonderful cook and baker and especially loved decorating birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren. Betty also had an amazing green thumb, keeping both large vegetable and beautiful flower gardens. Every fall the family would can and freeze vegetables for the winter months.
