Karen N. DeCatur

Karen N. DeCatur, age 77 years, passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2016 at her home.  Karen’s family rejoices in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.  Karen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was born in the Brooks area of Bay City, Michigan on July 18, 1938 to the late Jacob and Ellen (Couturier) Woodman.  Karen was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and volunteered for a number of years at various Christian camps including Spring Hill Camp, InPursuit and Gillman Springs.  She was an avid crafter and sewer and loved to travel, camp and vacation. She retired from Bay Medical Center where she worked as a patient credit counselor.  On February 11, 1956, she married Ronald F. DeCatur and he survives her.  She also leaves 4 children:  Kevin (Denise) DeCatur, Alan (Beverly) DeCatur, Derek (Kathy) DeCatur, Amy (Dave) Sandison, 14 grandchildren:  Lisa (Chris) Sumpter, Craig (Alexis) DeCatur, Bradley (Bethany) DeCatur, Brett (Amy) DeCatur, Zach (Rikki Shanteau) DeCatur, Keith (Emily) Sandison, Tyler DeCatur, Jeremy (Jacquie) Sandison, Russell (Sharon) DeCatur, Becca (Nate) Sibary, Erin DeCatur, Melissa (Austin) Simpson, Jake (Nicole) DeCatur and Brandon (Alisha) DeCatur, 23 great-grandchildren and a brother, David (Gwen) Woodman.  She was preceded in death by 2 sisters:   Bethine Carey and Leora Teall.  Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 11 a.m.  Pastor Roger Lyman and The Rev. Joshua N. Ragar will officiate.  Private interment will be in Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove.  Friends may call at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m.  She will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.  Memorial contributions can be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church or the wishes of the family.
