Abigail Mildred Kain, 100, of Filion, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2016 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Mildred was born in Filion on January 12, 1916 to the late Albert and Alice (Humphrey) Nelson.
She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1933 then continued her education, earning her Bachelors in Education from the Michigan State Agriculture College, class of 1939. She taught at Owen-Gage High School from 1939 – 1973 where she started the physical education program there.
On June 12, 1943, she married Victor Kain at her parents’ home in Meade Township. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2002.
Milly enjoyed gardening, reading and writing. She had several poems published in the Readers Digest and the Ladies Home Journal.
Mildred is survived by her sons: Richard Kain of Ubly, Gerald (Mary) Kain of Kinde and Edward Kain of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren: Adam, Rachel and Robert (Emily) Kain; and great grandchild, Camden.
She was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Trudy Kain; her brothers: Earl, Edward, Martin, Roland, Albert, Bill and Keith Nelson; and sisters: Eva, Arla and Marie.
Per Milly’s wishes, her body was donated to the Michigan State University. MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe handled the arrangements.
