Mr. Kenneth Rex Puryear of South Boston passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at his home.
He was born in South Boston on Aug. 23, 1956 and was 61 years old. He was the son of the late Edward Bruce Puryear and the late Shirley Conner Puryear.
Rex was a graduate of Halifax County High School where he excelled in many sports. He was a member of the 1968 South Boston Dixie Youth All Star team that won the state title and went to the World Series in Bartow, Florida.
Survivors include two sisters, Martha “Moncho” Puryear Shotwell of South Boston and Michelle “Spud” Puryear Estes and husband Michael of Danville; one brother, Edward Michael “Mickey” Puryear, and wife Anne of South Boston; two special aunts, Clara “Bonnie” Conner of South Boston and Shirley Whitt Conner of South Boston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins .
A sister, Vicki Lynn Puryear, also preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clinton McKinney officiating.
A reception will follow at the home of Mickey and Anne Puryear, 2901 North Main Street, South Boston. At other times, the family will receive friends at his home, 3146 Dan River Church Road, South Boston.
