Mrs. Cissie Alean Collins Brown of Brown’s Trail, Clover died on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at her residence at the age of 89.
Mrs. Brown was born in Halifax County on Nov. 24, 1927 to the late Mr. Samuel Evans Collins and Mrs. Narcissie Cousins Collins. She was married to the late Mr. James Oliver Brown Sr. and was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and usher.
Mrs. Brown is survived by four daughters, Sue Betty Reed of Richmond, Sarah Catherine Brown (Eric) of White Plains, New York, Carolyn Lee Brown Canada (Clarence) of Mt. Laurel and Jacqueline Mildred Brown of South Boston; two sons, James Oliver Brown Jr. of Clover and John Frederick Brown, (Tajanda) of Nathalie; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Easter Wilborn and Zelder Collins; two brothers-in-law, Emerson Brown and Nelson Oliver; two sisters-in-law, Nalda Brown and Arnetta Oliver; and a host of nieces and nephews including the devoted Valerie, Tony and Ronald; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, George and Jacob, and three sisters, Eliza, Alice and Annie.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Bowman officiating and the Rev. Kenneth Stokes eulogist.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1057 Brown’s Trail, Clover.
