Gifford Leroy Plante Jr “Skip” of North East, Maryland went home to the Lord on September 20th, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in St. Augustine, Florida on March 8th, 1951 the oldest child of Corky Plante and Elsie (Kirby) Plante of Newport News, Virginia.

Devoted husband and family man, Skip is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Brigitta, three sons, a daughter, two daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. Family was everything to Skip.

His favorite things to do were baking and cooking especially during holidays, visiting family in the Virginia mountains, fishing with his grandchildren, being a joker for the family, and basically spending every minute with family that he could.

Skip retired from the Army in 1990 after serving 20 years as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and Construction Equipment Repairer. His assignments included Fort Knox and Aberdeen Proving Ground, but his favorite duty station of all was Stuttgart, Germany where he was able to spend most of his career, and met and married Brigitta, the love of his life.

After his military career Skip continued to keep his hands dirty maintaining cars, trucks, farm and construction equipment at Newark Kubota, Walter G Coale New Holland in Churchville, AG – Industrial in Rising Sun, and Advance Auto in Elkton.

A funeral service will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, September 29th at 11am, and a celebration of Skip’s life is planned for September 30th at 2pm.
