Bernard Eugene Creegan, 73, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born Sunday, Jan. 23, 1944 in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Bernard D. Creegan and Ruth (Stevens) Creegan, who preceded him in death.
Bernie graduated from LaSalle High School in Cumberland in 1962.
After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Springfield, a guided missile cruiser in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he was employed by the Celanese Corporation until the plant closed in 1983, then was employed as a correction officer with the State of Maryland (MCI) following that with Callas Contractors Inc., Hagerstown Paint and Glass, and finally with Triad Construction as a lead contractor/master carpenter until he retired in 2006.
Bernie was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, I.W.L.A and the Lancaster Fencibles.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Creegan; children, Todd and wife, Cynthia, Jennifer and companion, Shawn, Brendan and fiancée, Savannah, Lori and James; sister, Mary; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred; and faithful pets, Ladydog, Sandydog and William the Squirrel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Msgr. J. Bruce Jarboe as celebrant.
Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
