William “Whitey” Dresbach

William F. “Whitey” Dresbach, 93, formerly of Peru, and for the past 6½ years a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle, died at 11:55 p.m. Jan. 9, 2016, in St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, Peru. Monsignor J. Brian Rejsek will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle, with graveside military rites by Peru Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday in the church. Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is assisting the family.
Mr. Dresbach was born Dec. 25, 1922, in La Salle to Frank and Marie (Wokna) Dresbach. He married Norma Braida on Oct. 29, 1949, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Spring Valley. Norma died on July 11, 2001.

He was the owner of Dresbach Distributing in Peru. He was a graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School and Bradley University. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Peru, the Peru American Legion until it closed and Oglesby American Legion. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his two sons, William Dresbach of Peru and Robert (Lori) Dresbach of La Salle; a daughter, Mary Katherine (Ronald) Flohr of Princeton; two grandsons, Derek and Danny (Liana); a great-grandson, Cameron; two sisters, Betty Fitton of Crete and Patricia Cogdal of Streator; and a brother, Ben Dresbach of Peru.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Dresbach.
