Richard G. Ford, 87, of Kewanee, died at 12:12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at his home. Cremation has been accorded and a private service was at Rux Funeral Home, in Kewanee, where military rites were accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Pastor Joe Schmidt officiated. Richard was born on Oct. 13, 1928, in Avon, the son of John Roscoe and Gordie (Benham) Ford. He married Mary E. Bear on Nov. 14, 1951, in Havana, Ill., and she preceded him in death on July 6, 2015.
Richard served his country in the Army and then for the Air Force during the Korean Era. He worked for John Deere until his retirement. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, going to the casinos, playing card games, gardening, reading western books and watching “Wheel of Fortune.” He especially enjoyed visiting with family.
He is survived by 11 children, Kathy (Terri) Ford, of Newman, Ga.; Sherry (Doug) Yarger, of Galva; Rick (Tammy) Ford, of Peoria; Joyce (Russell “Link”) Lindstrom, of Galva; Reno (Rosie) Ford, of Geneseo; John Ford, of East Moline; Lance Ford, of East Moline; Alice Ford, of Cambridge; Bruce Ford, of Cartersville, Ga.; Jeff Ford, of Cartersville, Ga.; and Patricia (Wade) Davis, of Fate, Texas; two sisters, Norma Windsor, of Monmouth; and Judy (Paul) Mitchell, of Inola, Okla.; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; four brothers; two sisters; and two sons, Gary Dean and Danny.
