Evelyn L. Kicksey, 106, a longtime Colona resident, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, in Moline. Funeral services celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Colona United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mark Horn will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, in Cambridge. A visitation will be one hour (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be left to the Colona United Methodist Church. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Evelyn was born Aug. 18, 1911, in Geneseo, the daughter of Lawrence and Daisy (Reed) Johnson. She completed 11 years of school and married Fred J. Kicksey on April 2, 1955, in Cambridge. He preceded her in death in 1980. Evelyn worked as the office assistant for the Cambridge Veterinarian Clinic for many years and then was a homemaker. She was a longtime and very active member of the Colona United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Henry County Republican Women and was active with the Colona Senior Citizens. Evelyn enjoyed flower gardening and yard work, baking, quilting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Falline, of Moline; step-daughter, Joy (Gene) McCord; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 17-great-great-grandchildren; as well as very special friends Armondo and Brenda Veloz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Don Griggs and Janet and Henry Sellers; step-daughter and spouse Janet and Larry McElwee; her son-in-law, Wayne Falline; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Darlene Johnson; and sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Bill Nebergall.
