Mary Ann Wysowski

KEWANEE — Mary Ann Wysowski, long-term resident and dedicated volunteer in Kewanee, died at the long-term care facility of Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo, on September 11, 2017 at 94 years of age.  Mary Ann Schwerbrock was born on February 4, 1923, the daughter of John H. and Mary Goossens Schwerbrock.  She graduated from Visitation School and Kewanee High School in 1941 and married Edmund Wysowski at Mather Field Air Base, Sacramento, California, on November 20, 1943.
Mary Ann was known for her engaging personality, work ethic, and volunteer spirit.  She assisted her husband, a golf professional, at Baker Park Golf Course and Lake Bracken Country Club, Galesburg, in their golf shops.  She was employed by the State of California in Sacramento, and in Kewanee by Steele’s Federal Bakery, Faull Furniture and Gifts, and the food service of Kewanee Hospital.  Mrs. Wysowski was a long-term member of Visitation (St. Mary’s) Church, and a volunteer for St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Visitation School, Visitation Church Altar and Rosary Society, Pilot House (Abilities Plus), and Royal Oaks Care Center.  She logged more than 20,000 volunteer hours in the Kewanee Hospital (St. Luke’s) Alcove gift shop, which she helped establish.  In 2004, she was named Volunteer of the Year by Royal Oaks, and in 2006, by Kewanee Hospital.  In 2007, she received the Women in a Supporting Role award by Kewanee Business and Professional Women, and, in 2014, the Inspirational Volunteer award by Henry County Housing Authority.
In addition to her husband who died in 2001, Mrs. Wysowski was preceded in death by a brother, John A. Schwerbrock, and a sister, Theresa Marshall.  She is survived by her children, Patricia (Fred) White, Diane Wysowski, Kathleen (Victor) Coburn, Michael Wysowski, and Mary Elizabeth Harrison; a brother, Charles (Thelma) Schwerbrock; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 10:00 am at Saint John Paul II Parish (Visitation) Church, Kewanee. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to St. Luke’s Hospital, St. John Paul II Parish, or Visitation School.
