Lonnie A. “Spud” Sorensen, 64, of Dwight passed away suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Dwight. Father Adam Cesarek will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dwight.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
Lonnie was born in Morris on Nov. 19, 1951, to Russell and Leah (Male) Sorensen. He married Sheila Richie on June 12, 1981, in Pontiac. She survives in Dwight.
Also surviving are his sons, Steve (Kathy) Wotton, Commerce City, Colo., Michael (Tiffany) Sorensen, Quincy; his daughters, Melisha Sorensen, Quincy, Michelle (Rick) Farris, Emington, Carrie McCracken, Quincy, Lori (Jason) Marques of Dwight; his brothers, Randy (Mary) Sorensen, Plattville, Rusty (Barb) Sorensen, South Wilmington, Jeff (Nadia Brozovich) Sorensen, Manteno, Darren (Dawn) Sorensen, Gooselake; his sisters, Gail (Rick) Decker, Braceville, Holly (Alan) Nielson of Dwight; his grandchildren, Jeff Fellers, Clay and Nick Wotton, Adam Sorensen, Kaylynn and Rylee Farris, Madison, Delaney, Lyndsey McCracken, Ethan and Brady Marques, along with many nieces and nephews.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his father, Russell Sorensen; a brother, Dewey Sorensen; and his sisters, Charlene Sorensen and Janice Cushing. His loving mother followed him home a few hours later.
He worked for R.R. Donnelley for 42 years as a machinist and most recently worked for South Wilmington Fireman’s Beach and Park Club.
Lonnie was an avid gardener and was known for his spuds. He was a hard worker all of his life and enjoyed boating, fishing and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events.
Lonnie will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials in honor of Lonnie may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
