BONDVILLE – Thelma Jean Swaim passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 16, 2016) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
She was born on June 16, 1931, at her parents’ home in rural St. Joseph. Her parents were Van and Ellen Dill Rice. She married Stanley Jay Swaim of Fithian on March 28, 1948. They had four children, Paulette (John) Behrens (deceased), Eric (Toppy) Swaim of Hempstead, Texas, Janet Swaim and Melissa Swaim, both of Champaign; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She attended Oakwood High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Prairie Farms Dairy. She was a longtime member of the Bondville-Seymour Home Extension, Illinois Quilt group. She loved to tole paint, ceramics and did chair caning for many years.
She was a member of the Bondville United Methodist Church and very active up until the last year.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one sister, one daughter and one grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, with Pastor Megan Thompson and Pastor Jerry Nichols officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests gifts for the Bondville United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Jean never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all.
