James Victor Riney, 83, of London Mills passed away at 4:04 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at Graham Hospital in Canton with his family at his side.
He was born April 22, 1932, in Maynard, Ark., the son of Edward S. and Nora Ethel Mack Riney. He married Nancy Masterson June 14, 1952, at the Christian Church in London Mills.
Vic is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy; two daughters, Vicki (Randy) Hartstirn of Canton and Cheryl (Steve) Taylor of Canton; one son, Dave (Kristie) Riney of Canton; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Doyle (Marilyn) Riney of Abingdon; and nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe, Gerald and Verlon Riney; and one sister, Leona Woodruff.
He grew up in Arkansas and moved to Illinois at the age of 16 to work. He served in the Army from March 3, 1953, until his discharge on January 31, 1955, and he obtained the rank of Corporal.
He lived in London Mills the past 63 years. He worked at Alton Box and later at Gates Rubber Company, from where he retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Roy Miller American Legion Post 644 in Fairview. He enjoyed horse racing, fishing, hunting and coin collecting.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 16 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial with military rites will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
