Edith M. Polson, 86, of Hooppole, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Geneseo Good Samaritan Village.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Calvary Evangelical Church, Hooppole. The Rev. Gene Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation for Edith will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Church Hooppole, American Cancer Society and Geneseo Good Samaritan Village.
Edith was born on Sept. 23, 1929, in Kewanee, the daughter of Emil and Selma Johnson Gustafson. She was a graduate of the Galva High School and was united in marriage to Roger Polson on Feb. 6, 1949, in Kewanee, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Edith was a farm wife assisting her husband on the family farm in Hooppole and was a member of the Calvary Evangelical Church, Hooppole, the Home Extension and Farm Bureau. She enjoyed doing embroidery work, cooking, and was an outstanding baker making two pies a week.
Survivors include her children, Diane (Hal) Coxon, Ortonville, Mich., Dwain (Audrey) Polson, Hooppole, Kevin Polson, Sibley, Iowa; son-in-law, Rick Hemphill, Geneseo; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin (Lu Ann) Gustafson; sisters-in-law, Miriam Gustafson, Kewanee, and Shirley Stevens, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Kristine Hemphill; four brothers and two sisters.
