Clifford L. Walter, 78, of Amboy died Jan. 10, 2016, in St Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in United First Church in Amboy with the Rev. Mark Glenn officiating. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery, Lee Center.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral arrangements are by Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.
Mr. Walter was born January 17, 1937, in Compton to Elmer and Gladys (Schlesinger) Walter.
He was a lifelong farmer, Lee Center Township Road Commissioner for 36 years, and a Pioneer Seed Salesman for many years.
Cliff was a member of Mendota Elks Lodge for 53 years, Amboy Lions Club for 41 years where he also had chaired the annual Lions Easter Egg Hunt for many years and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2012. He also was a member of Evergreen Cemetery Board, Sublette Union Church Board, past president of Amboy School Board, and coached Little League Baseball for many years. He also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and golfing at Shady Oaks Country Club in Amboy.
He married Phyllis Bierwirth in Mendota on Nov. 23, 1957.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Craig (Laurie) Walter and Lance (Becky) Walter both of Amboy, Scott (Rose) Walter of Nolensville, Tenn., and Aaron (Jeanette) Walter of Dixon; 11 grandchildren, Dustin (Kelly) Walter, Alysha Walter, Matthew (Amanda) Walter, Jessica (Ben Kearse) Walter, Kiera Walter, Jace Walter, Christopher (Shanis) Walter, Brittany Walter, Stacia Walter, Olivia Walter and Jaron Walter; four stepgrandsons, Ian Brittian, Justin Burd, Jackson Meyers and Jordan Meyers; seven great-grandchildren, Lenyx Walter, Everett Walter, Mackenna Walter, Greyson Walter, Shealyn Walter, Leighton Walter and Tavian Morris; and one brother, Byron (Marilyn) Walter of Amboy.
He was preceded in death by one stepgrandson, Leif Brittian.
