Carl “Butch” Litz

Carl “Butch” Litz, 74, of Pana, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield. He was born May 26, 1941 in Owaneco, son of the late Louis A. & Edith Eloise Mills Litz.
Butch served in the U.S. Army during the Korean & Vietnam Wars. He lived most of his life in Pana except for the time he was in the service. He retired from Firestone and was a member of Pana VFW, Pana American Legion, and Pana Eagles. He enjoyed playing Santa Clause for various organizations for several years.
Butch married Judy Hawthorne of Ramsey in 1959 and they divorced after 13 years. She survives and is mother to Jo (Charles) Hutson, Vandalia, IL and Vicki (Dale) Choisser, Nashville, TN. Also surviving is Dana L. Baker, mother of Kathy (Seth) Mason, Springfield, IL. He then married Charlene Slater in 1995. They divorced in 2001 and she survives in Pana, IL. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Stefanie Hutson, Sacramento, CA; Jessica Hutson, Austin, TX; Abby (Joshua) Bradshaw, Troy, IL; Emma Krummel, Chattanooga, TN; Kayla Mason; 2 great grandchildren: Jonah Michael Bradshaw & Cassidy Lane Bradshaw; and brothers: Jim Litz, Oconee, IL & John Litz, Oreana, IL. He was also preceded by his brother, Robert Litz.
Graveside inurnment will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Oconee Mound Cemetery with Pastor Leon Goff officiating. Graveside military rites will be by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Immediately following will be a time for sharing at the Pana VFW.
