Ball, Meredith Karlean (Chance)

BETTENDORF, Iowa – Meredith Karlean Chance Ball passed peacefully at Clarissa Cook Hospice in Bettendorf. Her family was at her bedside Jan. 13, 2016 at 6:19 a.m.
She was born Feb. 1, 1941, in Abingdon, Illinois, to Carl and Viola Chance. Both have preceded her in death.
She is the sister of Ron (Sarah) Chance of Good Hope, Illinois, and Lynn Chance of Quincy, Illinois. She graduated from Blandinsville High School and went on to work in Macomb, Illinois, as a legal secretary and bank teller. It was at Macomb Bank that she met Jack Ball and married him on Dec. 29, 1961. He preceded her in death in November 2010.
She was the mother to Melanie Ball of Phoenix, Arizona and Michael (Peg) Ball of Davenport, Iowa. She has two grandsons, Ian Walker (Melanie) and Jacob Ball (Michael); two stepgranddaughters, Ashley of Gilbert, Arizona, and Lizzie of Shawnee, Kansas. Ashley also had given her a great-granddaughter, Emma, and great-grandson, Ben.
Karlean was known by her friends as a huge pet lover. Her beloved cats, Houdini and Shadow, along with her dogs, Kipper, Bear, Sugar, Dobey, and Missy B are greeting her along with her farm pets she had growing up. She enjoyed reading and raising her children. Her favorite pastime was “sitting outside.” She was a loyal and dedicated employee to Dr. Babanoury, Dr. Stachniw, and Dr. Gernant. She never knew a stranger and in earlier years she enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends.
She will be cremated. Memorial visitation will be 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cards and flowers are welcome with any memorials made to Ian Walker and Jacob Ball, her grandsons. Online condolences may be made at
