Tax rates down, but you may still pay more

Georgia’s property tax system is a complex witch’s brew that few people fully understand. Some local citizens are about to get a lesson in how a tax rate cut may not equate to lower taxes this fall.
Several local governments plan to cut their millage rate this fall after Jackson County showed a strong growth in its tax digest. The City of Jefferson, the Jefferson City School System, the Commerce City School System and the Jackson County School System have all hinted that they want to lower their millage when they set their tax rates this fall.
