Madge Johnson Donaldson, 96, of Metter died Friday, January 22, 2016, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Born at home in rural Emanuel County, mailing address of Summit, Georgia, she was the daughter of Claude and Jane Bryant Johnson. A graduate of ECI, she played basketball and enjoyed typing class. Madge was a wonderful mother, grandmother, seamstress, cook, homemaker, hostess and caregiver. She welcomed every one into her home and soon they too called her MaMa Madge. She enjoyed music and a good card game with her friends and family and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erastus “Racco” Donaldson whom she married Dec. 3, 1938; her parents; a son, Mike Donaldson; two sisters, Janie Lou Johnson and Mary Jo Weidincamp and a brother, Fern Johnson.
Survivors are a son, Benjie (Jan McDaniel) Donaldson of Metter; a daughter, Jewell (Ned) Donaldson of Twin City; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Donaldson of Metter; a sister, Claudine (Tissie) Walden Stephens of Twin City; five grandchildren, Lisa (Alan) Thigpen, Kim Williams, Jamey Donaldson, Jessica (Mike) Page and Rak Donaldson; five great grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Thigpen, Garrett Thigpen (Casi McDonald), Ansley Donaldson, Adalyn Page and Keigan Williams; and two great-great grandchildren, Cannon and Adaline Thigpen; loving nieces and nephews; and her companion dog, Moose.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 29, 2016, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Mike Newman and Elder Sam Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Rosemary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 5:00-7:30 pm, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bubba Bird, Bill Bird, Morgan Trapnell, Randy Durden, Jason Grimes and John Paul Johnson. Remembrances may be made to Rosemary Cemetery Fund, 60593 Hwy 121 N., Metter, GA.
