Dr. David Bowen, Jr. March 10, 1936 – September 16, 2017

Dr. David Bowen, Jr., 81, St. Augustine, passed away on September 16, 2017 at Flagler Hospital. He was born in Cairo, GA, son of the late David and Edith Bowen Sr., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1984, moving here from Waycross, GA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and later received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech. Dr. Bowen was a chemical engineer and obtained 4 patents while working for Monsanto. He was also a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He was an Eagle Scout and as an adult served as a scoutmaster. His three sons followed in their father’s footsteps and also became Eagle Scouts. David was a longtime member of Anastasia Baptist Church serving as a senior deacon. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and devoted friend. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.

A Celebration of his Life will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday September 21, 2017 at Anastasia Baptist Church. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to Anastasia Baptist Church, 1650 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL 32080 or to a charity of your choice.

Interment services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday September 22, 2017 at Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, GA.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bowen, St. Augustine; three sons, David Bowen III, St. Augustine, Philip Wesley Bowen, Friendswood, TX, Richard Russell Bowen, Jasper, AL; grandchildren, Richard Russell Bowen Jr., William David Bowen, Clara Rebekah Bowen, Collin Renee Bowen, Kelly Bowen Rowntree, Kristen Elyse Salminen; great-grandchildren, Richard Russell Bowen III, Jennifer Rae Rowntree, and Judah David Salminen.
