Walter Baker, 89, of Lakeview Terrace passed away peacefully in his home on January 26. He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada on July 27, 1926. he is survived by his loving wife, of 64 years, Laura Baker, his brother Alan Baker (Joan), his 3 children, Diane O’Connell (Timothy), Krista Washburn (Mark), and Ian Baker, his 4 grandchildren Sean O’Connell, Kelly O’Connell, Meghan O’Connell, and Skyeler Washburn, and his nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Richard Denison and granddaughter Larina Baucum. Wallie served in the Canadian Army for 2 years before attending Acadia University where his love of sports, especially the Red Sox, led him to be the sport’s editor of the school paper, where he went on to become the editor of the paper. After graduating Acadia, he went on to obtain his Masters Degree from the Maritime School of Social Work. Wallie spent 44 years as a social worker; starting his career in Nova Scotia and continuing when moving to CT in ’64. While living in CT he spent numerous years as Executive Director of the Boys Village in Milford. Wallie spent the last part of his career as the Social Work Administrator responsible for all child abuse cases in the state until he retired in ’94 and moved to Florida. He spent much of his retirement enjoying his love of golf. A special thanks to the staff of Lakeview Terrace and Cornerstone Hospice for their caring hearts and hard work.
