Charles Richard Lewis, 77, of Chipley, Florida died January 25, 2016 at his home. He was born at home just south of Bonnett Pond, Washington County, Florida, on January 3, 1939, to the Reverend Richard Lewis and Nina Isabelle Dykes Lewis.
A 1957 graduate of Vernon High School, Charles received a recognition and retirement award after 35 years of service to the State of Florida and the Department of Transportation. He was a gifted guitarist who played in a local band. He also played Southern Gospel in many local churches. Charles was a passionate fan of Florida and Florida State Football, an automobile enthusiast, and a private pilot who loved aviation.
Charles Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Herbert Dykes; his sisters, Frances Dykes Lovett, Patricia Lewis, and Minnie Lee Lovett. Survivors include his sisters, Dorothy Haddock of Chipley, Florida, and Mary Lou Stripling, of DeRidder, Louisiana; his former wife, Myrtle Lewis of Marianna, Florida; his son, Charles Andrew Lewis of Baltimore, Maryland; his daughter and son-in-law, Regina Kay Douglas and Edward Douglas of Dothan, Alabama; his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Renee Hill and James Hill of Chipley, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The viewing will be held at 9:30 A.M. and the Funeral at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 30, at Wausau Assembly of God with Reverend Danny Burns and Reverend Ricky Lovett officiating. Interment will follow at East Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1590 Hwy 173, Graceville, FL 32440. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
