James Merritt “Jim” Lowery June 2, 1928 – August 6, 2017 To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. Jim has left a legacy and memories that will keep him with us the rest of our lives. On Sunday morning, August the 6th, he joined his beloved parents, Bart and Eunice Lowery, ten siblings, and a very special brother-in-law, Earl Jernigan, in heaven. James Merritt “Jim” Lowery was born in Toccoa, Georgia, on June 2, 1928, and stepped into eternity on August 6, 2017. He was 89 years old. Jim was one of sixteen children. Jim retired from Monsanto after 30 years of service. He was a devoted husband, daddy, uncle and a friend to many. Jim was a Master Mason and a member of New Life Baptist Church. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor and gracious spirit. Some of his favorite times were hunting and fishing in Montana with friends. He had a tender heart and a loving spirit. Jim never met a stranger and was always ready to share a moment. Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife, Eileen Black Lowery; daughter, Norgee (Allen) Thompson; sister, Lillie West; brothers, John, Joe, Jack (Vivian), and David (Diane) Lowery; sister-in-law, Lowetta Lowery; special sister-in-law, Lucille Jernigan; special nephew, Randy (Alicia) Jernigan; great-niece, Ashleigh (James) Acker and their daughter, Annaleigh Acker; great-nephew, Adam (Kaitlin) Jernigan, and their daughter, Avery Jernigan; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Obie and Mary Willis, and Doug Bufkin; and many members of his extended family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Bill Warren and John Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow services in Crain Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., prior to the service. The family wishes to thank Jim’s Hospice caregivers, Kim, Chasity, and Barbara, for all the tender loving care they gave to him throughout his illness. Pallbearers: Rick Jones, James Acker.
