BOHNSTENGEL Helen Marie Bohnstengel (Piepmeyer) passed away peacefully at her home on January 19, 2016, surrounded by her husband of 67 years, Lieutenant Robert Bohnstengel, USN (Ret) and her first daughter, Captain Linda Ireland, NC, USN (Ret). Helen was born on March 16 1927 in Cincinnati Ohio. She graduated from Deer Park High school and Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. Helen and Bob were married in 1948 and moved to Jacksonville in 1949. After being transferred to Argentia, Newfoundland, Bob and Helen returned to Jacksonville in 1952. Helen worked as a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital until 1955. A faithful lifelong Roman Catholic, Helen was a founding member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and school. In addition to rearing her and her husband’s six children, Helen made time to volunteer for various organizations and causes such as: Catholic Charities, delivering bread for the food bank, All Saints Nursing Home, conducting school vision screenings, RCIA advisor at Sacred Heart Parrish, and working once a week with the Sacred Heart school lunch program. She was also a member of the Daughter’s of the Nile. Helen was pre deceased by her father, Arthur Piepmeyer and mother Anna Augustin Piepmeyer of Norwood, Ohio. In addition her siblings Thomas, Arthur, Robert, Pauline, Mary, John, and Michael. She is survived by her husband Robert Bohnstengel, Jacksonville FL, sister Margaret Horne, Willard, NC, her six children, Michael Bohnstengel of Lawrenceville, GA, Linda Ireland, Jacksonville FL, Robert E Bohnstengel (Sally) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Diane Lawrence (Thomas) Hayden, ID, Jeffery Bohnstengel, Mount Pleasant, SC, Lisa Pafford (Sheldon) Ormond Beach, FL, twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews. A beautiful soul, Helen will always be remembered for her sweet smile, sparkling blue eyes, and warm heart. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rafal Mazurowski at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville. Interment will take place at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, January 26 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville. Please arrive 15 minutes early and park in Procession Lane # 1.
