Ruoff, Margaret LilaMargaret Lila Ruoff, known as Mickey, was born on June 25, 1925 in Berea, Ohio.
Mickey grew up on a farm in Ohio. At an early age, school was priority. Mickey attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1947. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. During college, Mickey interned at NASA in Cleveland and following her graduation continued to work for NASA as an editor.
Following college, Mickey intended to focus on her career until she met Vern Ruoff. They were married in Berea, Ohio and started a family. They had two children, Mark and Joy.
In the late 1960s, Mickey and Vern moved to Fullerton, California for Vern to pursue employment opportunities. Mickey became a paralegal and worked in a law office for many years.
Mickey and Vern owned a small vacation home at Treasure Island in Laguna Beach and spent much of their time in Laguna after they retired. Their daughter, Joy and grandsons, Ryan, Kevin and Shaughn would often join them at the beach.
Mickey and Vern were fortunate to travel together around the world. Mickey’s favorite trip was the Galapagos Islands.
In 2013, Mickey moved to Stockton to be closer to her family. Mickey moved to O’Conner Woods and felt right at home as part of the community.
Mickey was a lover of animals and had many dogs throughout her life. Mickey enjoyed spending time with friends and was part of many social groups. She enjoyed attending floral arrangement classes, playing Scrabble and Bridge, and engaging in (mostly friendly) debates and discussions on current events. Mickey loved to read and enjoyed a wide range of authors. A favorite of hers was Richard North Patterson.
Mickey passed away on December 27, 2015.
Mickey was predeceased by: husband Vern Ruoff, son Mark Ruoff, daughter Joy Daugherty (Ruoff), mother Olive McAfee, father James McAfee, and brother James McAfee.
Mickey is survived by: her grandsons and their wives – Ryan and Lori; Kevin and Andrea; Shaughn and Stefanie; and her great grandchildren – Charlie Daugherty (age 3); Benjamin Daugherty (6 months) and Murphy Margaret Daugherty (3 months).
A small service for family and friends will take place at O’Conner Woods in Stockton at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 8, 2015.
