Robert Allen “Bob” Palmbach passed away on December 18, 2015 in Bakersfield, CA at the age of 78. He was born May 23, 1937 in Elkhorn, WI to Reubin and Gladys (Krause) Palmbach.
He grew up in Wisconsin and many summers during Bob’s younger years were spent working on his uncle’s farm in Illinois.
Bob served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an Airman Second Class, stationed in Iceland.
Bob was married to his wife Marguerite (Pace) on July 14, 1962 in Ventura, CA.
Known as a creative and entrepreneurial man, Bob had many business ventures throughout his life including running heavy equipment, logging, TV repair, nuclear power plant electrician, and 30 years as the proprietor of Vogel Electric in Bakersfield, CA, specializing in DC motor repair. Bob’s shop was known for repairing and restoring antique car and truck generators, armatures and magnetos and he donated an electric car motor that it is on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. Bob was also featured on a History Channel special highlighting electric vehicles.
By reading books and journals and talking to folks, Bob could figure out how to do just about anything. Even when his health was poor, Bob continued to learn and create things. He made wood lathe bowls, cups, vases, wooden cut out animals, miniature figures, cars, and entire miniature villages. Bob loved his and Marge’s motorhome and they traveled around California and even across America a couple of times. He also loved his family, taking long walks, working on his many projects, “fixing” the computer, and eating Marge’s wonderful cooking.
Bob loved the Lord and was a member of Lutheran Church of Prayer of Bakersfield. His favorite verse was John 14:7.
Bob is preceded in death by his brother Melvin, his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy & Janelle and grandson Andrew Palmbach.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marguerite “Marge”; daughter Jinger (Norm) Ranallo; son Robert (Rhonda); son Jeff (Jennifer); son Doug (Amanda); 9 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Bob is also survived by his sister Louise (Howard) Basso and sister-in-law Joan Palmbach of Wisconsin.
