Norma Jean Johns passed away peacefully on the morning of Jan. 7, 2016, at home. It would have been her 58th wedding anniversary. She was born in Burley, Idaho, on Nov. 20, 1938, to George and Dora Verburg.
Norma was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She went by many nicknames: Grams, G’ma, Jeannie and granny great, to list a few. In her younger years, Norma enjoyed bowling in leagues in both Napa and Solano counties, and some of her favorite places to dine were the Kmart cafeteria, Lyon’s and Taco Bell.
She had a true love of animals. She had several dogs over the years and a couple of cockatiels. She was a huge sports fan. Her first loves were the Oakland Raiders and Oakland A’s, eventually she came to love the SF Giants and SF 49ers.
Norma Jean is survived by her four loving children and their spouses, Cynthia (Tim), Candy (Randy), Ricky (Sari) and Jamie (Dave); her many grandchildren and their families, Alesha (Jaime), Billy (Sarah), Kristen (John-Paul), Ryan (Brennan), Kirissa (Alejandro), Kyle (Anna), Kenny (Kaity) and Randall; she also had many great-grandchildren; and her loving caregiver, Jennifer Ramos for the past two-and-a-half years; a host of extended friends and family.
A blessing to honor Norma Jean Johns will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, Vacaville. Norma will be laid to rest with her late husband, Kenneth Leroy Johns, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. A small reception will be held immediately after the service, location will be announced.
