January 27, 1931 — December 18, 2015
John passed away December 18, 2015 to be with the lord and to reunite with his beloved wife of 44 years, Esther.
A beloved husband, father, papa, uncle, godfather and friend. John was born in Los Angeles, California on January 27th, 1931 to Gregorio and Rita Resendez. John’s middle name Eduardo somehow turned into the nickname ” Lalo” at a very young age and the nickname stuck with him throughout his life, especially with family. Lalo started school in Los Angeles and before long the family relocated to Bakersfield, California where he continued his schooling and graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1949. Within a year after graduation Lalo enlisted into the United States Navy.
John served aboard the USS Mount McKinley (AGC-7). AGC-7 sailed three tours of duty during the Korean War, John was on board for one of her three tours. John worked as a radio and communications officer while on duty of the Mount McKinley. John received an honorable discharge in the spring of 1955.
After the service John resided in Bakersfield for the next year and a half. John worked for a short period at Sea Breeze and then began working at Western Electric. John eventually went back to Los Angeles where he went to a trade school for electronics. In April of 1957, John met the love of his life, Esther Saiz, they married in October of 1958. They spent 44 happy, glorious and blessed years together before Esther went to be with the lord in September of 2001.
John worked for 35 years at Librascope a company that was based in Glendale, California. John worked in the systems and production testing department. John also had the chance to travel for Librascope to such places as Groton, Connecticut, Hawaii and as far away as Scotland.
When John wasn’t working he loved coming to Bakersfield for the holidays and to visit family and spend time with his many cousins and compadres. John also enjoyed to fish and spent many afternoons fishing the Kern River. Before retirement John took up camping and hiking where he and his good friend Dick would get together to venture outdoors. Their friendship continued well after retirement and as far as I know, up to Johns passing. Some special places John loved were Bridgeport, California and Mammoth Lakes, especially June Lake.
John leaves behind, to cherish his memories, his two sons and daughter. Greg, Denise and John Resendez. His only sibling Maria R. Jimenez and brother in-law Rudy Jimenez. Granddaughters, Rita Aragon, Lauren and Emily Resendez. Grandsons Rudy Joseph and Matthew Aragon and Jake and Nolan Resendez. Three nephews the late Raymond Jimenez, Mark and Armando Jimenez. Two nieces, Lisa McGovern, Pam Streibel and numerous cousins, godchildren and friends.
