Jesus Raul Gonzalez, 63, was born in Ciudad Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico to Juan Antonio and Maria Lucia Gonzalez. Raul came to Bakersfield from El Paso, Texas the summer of 1966; Raul was preceded in death by parents, Juan Antonio and Maria Lucia Gonzalez and sister, Maria Antonita (Tonia) Cortez. He is survived by his brother, Miguel and wife, Christine Gonzalez; sisters, Irma and husband Guillermo Rubio and Delia and husband Joe Fabela; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Raul graduated from East Bakersfield High school, shortly after he enlisted in United States Army. In his 10 years of service he received various medals and badges including; Army services Ribbon, Overseas services Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Good Conduct medal, Marksman Badge with M16 Rifle bar, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Driver-Track Vehicle, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Repairer Course and M1 Tank Vehicle Repair Course reaching his goal of Sergeant which he was very proud of. All these accomplishments while stationed in Germany. Regardless of his life’s problems he always tried to help out his family and friends with whatever he could. He had a special place in his heart for his niece, Erica Fernandez whom he viewed as the daughter he never had. Erica was always there for him taking him to all his doctor’s appointments making sure he was doing ok. He was so proud to be Erica’s’ daughter, Ella’s Godfather.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2015 at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) from 5:00 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 10:00 .m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery (0338 E Bear Mountain Blvd).
