Hutcherson, Richard Jackie “Jack”, 81, of Brea, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016. He was born to the late Roy and Mamie Hutcherson in Silvertown, GA, May 24, 1934. He married the late Clarah Hutcherson in 1952. They left for California shortly thereafter, eventually settling in Fullerton in 1957.
Jack held various jobs through the years in many different industries, from running a lathe to operating a lunch truck, ultimately retiring from Lucky Supermarkets where he spent many years as a maintenance mechanic.
In retirement Jack was an avid woodworker. He even designed his own work benches and tools for his hobby. He loved nothing more than making things for family and friends.
First and foremost, however, Jack was and will always be remembered as a youth sports coach in Fullerton. He coached at all levels of Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and Boy’s Club Basketball. In particular he coached Football for over 50 years in Fullerton. The Fullerton Pop Warner Football Field is named Jack Hutcherson Field in his honor and he was inducted into the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame for his commitment to youth sports.
He is survived by three children: Randy Hutcherson of Charleston, SC; Jackie De Luna of Fontana; and Cathy Blake of Fullerton. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Cassie, Christine, Stacey and Richard De Luna of Fontana.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in Jack’s name, to Fullerton Pop Warner Football at P.O. Box 2262 Fullerton, CA 92837.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 15, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, and a Memorial Service on Friday, January 15, at 10:00 AM. Both will be held at McAulay & Wallace in Fullerton.
