Dunn, Grace Mary “Nicky”Grace Mary “Nicky” Dunn (née Curren) died peacefully at her home in Costa Mesa on December 31st at the age of 91 following an unexpected but brief illness.
She is survived by her seven children – Maureen (Jay), Cindy (Bob), Kathy, Sean, Kim (Joe), Melinda (Toby) and Meghan (Dave). She also leaves two brothers, Tom (Shirley) and John (Judy). She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Marie Curren and her sister, Jackie. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, their spouses, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Nicky was born on April 3, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Thomas Francis Curren and Marie Schwab Curren. She graduated from Pasadena Junior College in 1944 and entered the banking business as an escrow officer. She married Robert L. Dunn in 1946 and they established a home together in Altadena, California where they raised their family. Nicky was a loving and supportive parent throughout their lives, always interested in their activities, careers, friends, problems, and whatever else mattered to them.
In 1972, Nicky moved to Costa Mesa with her younger children and began a second career as a legal secretary at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She retired in 1994 and became more involved with the community as a volunteer with her church and the Assistance League.
In 2013 she and a long-time acquaintance from her church, Paul Martin, began seeing each other. Over the last 2 1/2 years of her life, they traveled the world, enjoyed their families together, and lived life to the fullest. He joins the family in grieving her loss.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16th, at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Costa Mesa with a reception to follow at the church hall. Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Nicky’s life.
