CAILLOUETTE, James Clyde M.D. James Clyde Caillouette, M.D. passed away on Christmas Day, 2015 at his home in Pasadena. He was 88 years old. Jim was born in Los Angeles on June 2, 1927. His parents, Al and Vera Caillouette, moved to Lakewood, Washington when Jim was twelve years old. He entered the Clover Park Public School System where he was President of the Junior Class, the Senior Class and the Student Body. He began playing the drums in high school and had a dance band in senior high and throughout college. Jim greatly enjoyed jazz and played his drums throughout his life.
The U.S. Navy beckoned in 1945. He served as a Naval Air Crewman for two years before returning to the Northwest to begin college at the University of Puget Sound. Jim then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine from which he graduated with honors. In 1950, he married Joan Thompson at her family’s home. Jim had known Joan since he first moved to the Northwest in the seventh grade.
Jim won numerous awards in the field of medicine. He was a member of the Nu Sigma Nu Honor Society. As an obstetrician-gynecologist in Pasadena., he delivered thousands of babies and was president of the Pacific Coast Ob-Gyn Society, a group he truly enjoyed his entire career. Jim was an avid inventor and was issued 33 patents on a wide variety of medical products and devices. He authored and coauthored 35 scientific papers and has been a consultant to many companies.
Jim was very involved in the community. He served on the board of Polytechnic School for ten years. He was a past President of the Valley Hunt Club, and a member of the Twilight Club, the Economic Round Table, The California Club and the Atheneum if Caltech.
Jim is survived by Joan Caillouette, his wife of 65 years, and his three children: Laurie Nichols (Mrs. John L.), James T. Caillouette, M.D. and Anne Lawler (Mrs. Kenneth P.) He has ten grandchildren.
A reception will be held on Friday, January 29th at 4:00pm at the Valley Hunt Club in Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the James C.
