We’re sad to share that Arlene Ball passed away on January 2, 2016 at the age of 95 years old. In 1920, Arlene was born in Long Beach to Elmer Penn and Evelyn Modler and she had one sister and one brother. She graduated from Manual Arts High School. In 1941, Arlene married Stan
Tickle and they had two daughters, Sue and Patty. Stan and Arlene moved to New Horizons Condo in Torrance in 1969. When Stan passed away, she married Norm Ball in 1977. Arlene and Norm took many wonderful vacations and traveled to every continent except Antarctica. Arlene was a homemaker and an outstanding volunteer with 11,000 hours of service at Torrance Memorial Hospital and 24 years of service at Meals on Wheels. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of PEO for 40 years as well as the president of PEO, UMW, PTA, and TMMC Auxiliary. She had been a faithful member of Riviera Methodist Church for 47 years and was in UMW, sang in the choir, and played in the hand bell choir. She loved spending time with her family and was fondly called Granny. She enjoyed playing golf, participating in many activities, taking vacations and celebrating family occasions. We’re grateful for Arlene and all she contributed to the lives of her family, friends, church and community. She is survived by her brother, Bill Penn, and daughters, Sue Thompson (husband Gary) and Patty Hanford (husband Steve), 4 grandchildren Dan Thompson, Debbie Lew, Ben Beck and Abigail Gilson and 4 great grandchildren Joshie Lew, Mikayla Lew, Derrick Thompson and Lindsay Thompson. You’re invited to celebrate Arlene’s life at a Memorial service on Friday, 1/15 at 2:00 PM at Riviera Methodist Church, 375 Palos Verdes Blvd, Redondo Beach.
