Babel, Henry (Hank) W.

October 14, 1933 -November 7, 2015

Henry (Hank) W. Babel, 82, of Huntington Beach and Mukilteo, passed away peacefully at home with family after a recent diagnosis of cancer. He was independent, active and alert to the end. Hank, the son of Willi and Frieda Babel, was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Southern California in 1961. Most recently he lived in the Seattle area. Henry was an engineer and valued education. He graduated from University of Illinois, Urbana with a BS and Masters in Mechanical Engineering and graduated with a Ph.D. in Engineering at the Ohio State University. He relished his career of 55 years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing and never boasted of his patents or publications, but recently spoke enthusiastically about his contributions for the Dreamliner 787 airplanes. He had a passion for learning many languages and was fluent in Japanese, German and English. He was a world traveler and treasured children. Henry enjoyed collecting, organizing, reading, watching movies and sports, and doing puzzles. He is survived by his first wife, Joy Babel and wife, Ryoko Babel; his children, Lisa, Todd, Karen, Paul, James, Michiko; and 5 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Kurt and his sister, Ruth Trillanes. Henry will always be remembered as a gentle, generous, dedicated, practical, soft-spoken man. He will be dearly missed by all.

An informal Memorial Gathering will be held on January 17, 2016, at 2:00 PM at The Greenbrook Clubhouse, 18222 Santa Joanana, Fountain Valley, CA 92708.
